Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts

Do I have to change my name on my mortgage?

I was married recently and changed

my name. Now, my mortgage bank

wants to charge me a huge

processing fee to change my name

on my account. Can I skip this and

leave my maiden name, or do I

legally have to have the correct

name on the loan? They do have

the correct social security number

(which now matches my married

name).

Re: Do I have to change my name on my mortgage?

You do not have to pay them a fee to change your name on a ore-existing set of loan documents. You may wish to advise them to leave the obligation (s) in your old legal name and note on the documents (aka) your new married name. All this should be done at no additional charge to you.
