Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

Collecting from Ex-

As result of my Exhusbands bad debt I ended up paying off a credit card charges that he incurred totally but I was co-owner of the card. As a result I contacted an attorney who had a promissary note drafted up/signed by ex- as well as added it to our divorce settlement. The agreement in terms was exactly what my ex agreed to. In short the final payment $5,000. date came/went, he say's he is working on it but what can I do to avoid this from going on, on. Also on another item he owes me $1900. which he agreed to pay by the end of the year via a letter to me. Should I be doing something to secure payment on this?

Re: Collecting from Ex-

The promisory note, if drafted properly, would be enforceable in a court of law. You may wish to hire an attorney to assist in enforcement of the note. Short of legal action, your ex's promises may very well go on and on, and you must be careful about waiting too long to enforce your legal rights (i.e. a statute of limitations problem).
