Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

How can I keep a creditor from calling my house about my Daughter whom does not live here. I have no idea how they got my number. I told them at least 20 times she does not live here.

Do you know who it is? If you don't, but have caller ID, you can google the number to find out who it is. Or, next time they call, over to take a message for your daughter, and they will give you the number. Once you know who it is, send them a letter demanding they stop calling your number and confirming that it is not a number for your daughter (even if it was, they have to stop calling). If you still get calls more than about 10 days after you've mailed the letter, contact a lawyer to pursue a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. A creditor has to stop calling anyone upon written request. They are also prohibited from calling very early in the morning or very late at night, or more than about 3 times per day (there is no set number - it is what's called "reasonable").

Good luck!
