Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

Burglary from a car

My friend was recenlty arrested by the police, for breaking in a car. He did not do it. He was trying to help out, he even called the police, but they would not let him because he was not the victim. He did not call 911 he called directly to the station. Well he was arrested and released after they found his prints in the car. Like I said he was trying to help, he is no theif, I am sure of that. Are fingerpritns alone enough to arrest him and charge him with the crime? What about a conviction.
