Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

A father going to jail

A good father that works two hard jobs is going jail because of child support. He pays about $800 a month. He cannot pay child support if he is in jail. So is there a way he can appeal from going in jail? Or is there a way he can make certain arrangements so that they can reduce the payments? And if he does goes in jail how long would his sentence be?
