Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

I divorced a British citizen in August 2007. Our divorce papers outlined that he was to pay me $10,960.10. He did not pay me and has since moved back to England. Is there anything I can do to guarantee payment?

I suggest that you confer with an attorney who practices family law: It is critical that you phone immediately because there can be time deadlines called 'statutes of limitations' and if you miss certain time deadlines you certainly can permanently lose your right to make a claim. You must understand that I do not know what 'statutes of limitations' are involved in your situation and cannot give you legal advice on that, so it is paramount that you phone for attorney help immediately. The attorney may want to meet with you and ask you detailed questions and then provide you with legal advice. The attorney may well need to research the matter with regard to statutes and case law and other sources of law. You help the attorney by providing the attorney with copies of all relevant documents including but not limited to 'the divorce papers'. I suggest that you phone several attorneys before you choose one attorney to help you in this matter, because an attorney is providing a personal service to you and it is critical that you feel a sense of trust and safety.
