If the "harassment" you were reporting was illegal discrimination, sexual harassment or you reported some other type of illegal or tortious conduct by your coworker, this may be considered "protected activity" or you may be a whistleblower. You are protected under the law from retaliation by your employer when you report or complain of certain types of conduct. On the other hand if you had just had a disagreement with a co-worker, this might not rise to the level of illegal harassment. The timing is certainly suspicious, so you may have a retaliation claim regarding your termination. Were you already under discipline or some type of performance plan?
