Legal Question in Traffic Law in Minnesota
unreasonable acceleration
What does it mean? The officer questioned the speed limit and the speed I was going? and then gave me a ticket for unreasonable acceleration with no indication of speed on the ticket at all? So not sure why I got a ticket? Please explain what it means as I do not want to pay for a ticket I do not deserve??
thanks

Re: unreasonable acceleration
Without seeing the ticket, I really can't tell you for sure what it means. That charge in my experience usually refers to a city ordinance and not a state law, so it can vary a lot from one city to another.
Usually this would be a petty misdemeanor. Just a fine, no jail time. If it is just a city violation, there is a possibility it won't go on your state driving record, but you better ask some quesitons about that before you pay the ticket.
When we are trying to make a deal on a speeding ticket, getting it changed to unreasonable accelleration is usually considered to be a good deal. They say a good lawyer is one who can get a sodomy charge reduced to following too closely. You would be well advised to engage the services of a lawyer to figure out exactly what you have and whether you should pay it or fight it.
Good luck.
