Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Minnesota

Probate

My Dad died Chicago, he owned an empty lot in Chicago and piece of land in Michigan. I live Minnesota, My siste still lives in Chicago. My father wrote , signed and Notarized a simple 2 sentence will leaving splitting everything 50-50. Which state will we need to initiate probate.

If your father lived in Chicago, then the probate case would be filed in Illinois. Whether or not a simple two sentence document would be sufficient to constitute a valid will would depend on Illinois law. It would not likely be sufficient in Minnesota.
