Legal Question in Technology Law in Missouri

A long question: I am in a new relationship with a woman. During her recent break-up she lived with her fiancee in an apartment. He asked her to move out. She left her laptop there - which he had used on previous ocassions. After their breakup she eventually reclaimed her belongings. About two-months after she moved out a video of her with a different ex was emailed through her personal email address to everyone in her contact list. The IP address that the email was sent from is unknown. We believe her ex-fiancee is behind this some how - but he has denied any knowledge. How should we proceed?

Send the above with an apology to the IP address, then call the police and let them work on it if they will. I doubt the police will do anything if the video was hers. Her computer, her email address, her video, her contact list. If her ex-fiance is accused, he will counter by saying she did this to frame him and he is innocent. Be sure, very sure, she didn't before pursuing this, otherwise it may backfire. Best Advice--send the apology and chalk it up to a lesson learned.
