Legal Question in DUI Law in Missouri

I was driving in sonic burger about 2 miloes a hour and had taken a valium 2 hours earlier because i have anervous stomach. I live in a small town of 3000 people and there are 3 police officers. while leaving the parking I scratched a car and they called the chief of police, who is good friends with my parents. He parked my car in sonic for my parents to pick up and arrested me for dwi drugs and took me to jail. I dont know how small towns work but he told me parents that I just had to go to court pay the ticket and a fine and that would be it. I called the police station aand they said that he is pretty knowladegeble about the law but the internet says different. The court house is only a few people so I dont know if he is telling myy parents the truth. He also goes to my parents church and i hit a car which resulted in a few bumber scratches, no dents. what do you take of this info?

There is no way that you should just plead guilty and pay the fine. A conviction for a charge like this will result in your driver's license being revoked for one year. If you are under 21 there may also be other collateral consequences for you in regards to your driver's license. Perhaps even more importantly you will have a record which will follow you for the rest of your life, giving you problems whenever you need to fill out an application. Most applications ask if youhave ever been convicted, and you will hae to say "yes" if you follow this police officer's advice. I'm sure that there are defense attorneys in your area who will be happy to explain everything to you and represent you in this case. Most of the time an attorney can help you to avoid the conviction. consult with an attorney as soon as you can. Good luck.
