Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Nevada

SoL on Judgement Lien

If a judgment from another state was filed in Nevada as a lien against a home. Would the expiration period be based on when the collection agency filed the lien in Nevada? Or from the date the original Judgment was obtained out of state?

I'm currently litigating this very issue. In fact, I'm concerned as to whether you are the opposing party. If you're not, you are free to call me to discuss.

Nevada law provides:

NRS 11.190 Periods of limitation. Except as otherwise provided in NRS 125B.050 and 217.007, actions other than those for the recovery of real property, unless further limited by specific statute, may only be commenced as follows:

1. Within 6 years:

(a) An action upon a judgment or decree of any court of the United States, or of any state or territory within the United States, or the renewal thereof.

The foreign jurisdiction's limitations period is relevant only concerning whether the foreign judgment is still valid in the State of its rendition. Once properly domesticated in Nevada, it is good for six (6) years.
