Legal Question in Family Law in Nevada

Complications with residency

I was married in Nevada while living in California in 1997. In 1998 I left the country to work overseas for a year. While I was away, I separated from my husband. Now that I am back, where do I file the divorce? I am under the impression that I need to have resided in California for 6 months prior to filing for divorce, but I do not intend to live there again. Thank you.

So where do you live? And where does the spouse live?

If either you or your spouse lives in Nevada and has lived here for more than six weeks, you have a basis for divorce under Nevada jurisdiction. Or do you have grounds is an annulment?

I can't offer an opinion on California law. If you live in Clark County and would like to schedule an appointment, please call my office.
