Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Nevada

Misrepresentation

Became engaged to NV officer. Gave up my home/furn/job(fiance advised we could not make 2 mtg payments and promised we would buy another home together after we improved his home to sell)I invested $ to renovation his home I did all the labor. 1 month after moving I discovered he was still married to a woman in CA.I also discovered he could not get out of this due to the fact they were commit ins.fraud. I also discovered he was using another name & earn $ in a bus that would cost him the loss of his job. In his home for 45 days-there was 1 incident of domestic violence and I left. Fiancee packedshipped my things without my permission w/mover that is not lic.or insured. Valuables missing and others damaged. What recourse do I have for the loss of my house and my furnishing and the loss of my things that never arrived? I feel he misrepresented himself. There was never any intention of marriage and if so it would have been fraudulent. My home is now in foreclosure, my former fiancee has the means to settle.I would not have walked from everything I owned if he had represented his situation in its true form. Do I have a case? Damages are estimated at 35-50k.

Re: Misrepresentation

Thanks for your posting. In California, as with most jurisdictions, you can no longer sue for "breach of promise to marry", so this becomes a simple breach of contract, and a financial situation.

You should account for all financial losses you have suffered, and begin to collect your evidence, including witnesses and any documents, showing what you've spent to benefit the house you were to share together.

A good first step is to put together a detailed demand letter asking for him to pay this money, or threatening to sue him. If he does not voluntarily pay, you may have to file a lawsuit to collect your losses.
