You can but you need to attach an affidavit from an expert in medical mapractice to the Complaint stating an expert opinion that the hospital committed malpractice.

You can always represent yourself. However, I really advise against it, especially for your serious case. There are many legal rules particular to medical malpractice and your case can be dismissed on a technicality. For example, you must file the complaint with a supporting affidavit and there are special statutes of limitation. Also, the hospital won't take you seriously since you don't have an attorney.
