Legal Question in Family Law in New Hampshire

what are my options?

My wife & I were married 7 yrs ago in Jamaica. She has 3 kids & this is her 2nd marriage, my 1st & no kids. We bought a home about 3 yrs ago. Since moving into that house, she has run up credit card bills. The first one she told me about was over $30,000. We paid that off & I just found a credit card bill for over $7,000 & since she doesn't pay it all off every month, the interest rate is 40%! The bills are in her name. She just started working & takes care of the bills with both her & my money together. If I decide to divorce her, who has to pay the outstanding bills if they're in her name? I'm assuming that the house would have to be sold & split as neither of us could buy the other out. Her ex still sees & has the kids every other week.

What do you think?

Re: what are my options?

There is no simple answer to this question. An examination would have to be made of what was purchased and why. I expect that the judge would require her to pay most, if not all, of the bills for her personal purchases. Before a plan can be formulated a detailed review of all of the family financial picture needs to be created. I urge that you meet with an attorney to review all of the details so that an appropriate approach to the problem can be formulated.
