Law specifying 45 hours worked before overtime for a mechanic

We were told there was a law requiring 45 hours at regular hourly pay before any overtime would be paid for an automotive mechanic.

Can you point me to this law?

I believe that the 40 hour rule applies across the board. In other words, it sounds like someone is trying to pull a fast one. Of course, lunch time is excluded so if you got an hour each day for lunch, that could also explain things...
