Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

I was arrested about 5 years ago for disorderly conduct. It involved nothing more than a two groups of people yelling at each other. There was nothing physical involved and no one from the other party was arrested because they were friends with the cop who was a "summer rental" down at Sea Isle City, NJ while I was just a weekend visitor. I was taken to the station and released 30 minutes later.

Because this occurred when I was still in college, I never received anything in the mail detailing a fine or court date. Because of this I am concerned there may be an outstanding warrant for my arrest, which would be a problem as I am now trying to either join the NYPD or the military. I would like to certainly address this if there is in fact a warrant, and actually would like to get the charges dropped, as I do not believe the arrest was fair or that I did anything wrong. If I was arrested for yelling at someone and there were three of them and only one of me, why were they not arrested as well, since they were yelling and certainly more threatening as their numbers were greater.

Also, I recently had to resolve an unpaid traffic violation that resulted in my PA drivers license being suspended. The suspension was served, fines paid, and the license renewed due to it expiring as well. What confuses me, is that if there is in fact a warrant out for my arrest from NJ for the disorderly conduct that happened 5 years ago, wouldn't it prevent me from getting a renewed license issued, even if it was in a neighboring state?

You probably do have a warrant. Call me at 732/773/2768 to discuss.

You could well have a warrant--I can investigate it and take steps to neutralize it---

The warrant would not necessarily keep you form getting your license restored, but that should be inspected as well

Should not be a terribly expensive procedure....The disorderly can be expunged after a time following thw cleaing of the citation.

Call me and we can talk about it...Would be happy to explore the options

Sea Isle City is in Cape May County, New Jersey. I practice here, and appear frequently in the numicipal court in Sea Isle. You have described a noise violation, which is taken very seriously in Sea Isle, because of a vocal group of elderly courtwatchers who attend every session and eyeball the prosecutions.

There likely was a warrant issued. Since it is a municipal court warrant, it likely doesn't affect you much in Pennsylvania. Get stopped in New Jersey though, and you might spend a night or two in jail.

Taking care of this should be fairly easy. You can call the court, and ask them to list the matter for trial. Then you go take care of it. They may want you to post a modest bail, which, under the circumstances would be entirely reasonable. In any event, when you go to court, you will have an opportunity to try your case, or to accept some plea offer, likely a local ordinance violation. I am in no position to offer you advice on what to do in that event, and don't, since I don't have the police reports, and have not been retained to offer any advice.

I would be happy to offer you representation if you think you need it. (609) 729-1333

Good luck.
