driving suspened license/after 1st dwi

I went to court for this matter i was sentenced 30 days community service add 1 year suspension and 1000.00 fine. This can't be right!!! When i drove was not drinking just driving with suspension. I am very confused. Nj new jersey law said 6 month 500. Fine could be jail time 5to 10!!! Days can you please explain this!!! I appeal this sentenced waiting for appeal notice. But i have to start my community service.

If you were driving while on the suspended list, and the suspension was as a result of a DWI conviction, the penalties are increased or enhanced. It appears that this is what you received. I would think that the Judge explained all of this (albeit relatively quickly) when you received your sentence. You should check with your attorney if you had one to be sure you were sentenced properly.

Keep in mind that this advice is based purely on the little bit of information that you have given to me. There certainly may be other facts that would change my opinion.
