Legal Question in DUI Law in New Jersey

I had the 1st and last DWI 5 years ago. Now I'm persuing a career in law emforcement. Is it possible to get that record sponge, and if so; What is the meaning and process of sponging a record.

Unfortunately, no. Unlike a criminal record, there is no statutory mechanism for expunging past driving offenses from your abstract.

Hi:

The process that you are referring to is expungement and this really does not apply to dwi and dmv offenses. In NJ the last time I looked at the DWI statute, in order for sentencing purposes if there are repeat offenses, the original offense does not count if over ten years have past.

That being said if you are serious about pursuing a career in law enforcement, perhaps you can speak to a recruiter and pose the question in a hypothetical fashion and ask for advice if this comes up in the application process.
