Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

Emancipation of a minor

I am 16 and will soon be working full time. I want to get my own apartment. My parents want me to as well only they do not want to be responsible for anything that happens to me. Is it possible for me to become an emancipated minor. If so, what has to be done specifically?

Re: Emancipation of a minor

hi -

you must file a complaint in superior court, chancery division, family part. probably it would be best to hire a lawyer to represent you. the judge will decide whether to grant your application after a hearing. if you have any other questions, feel free to call me at 609 263-0089. good luck !!
