Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

I was hired as a programmer in a 2 people company (me & owner) in 2002. I was given the CTO title in 2014. But I didn't get a new contract detailing CTO's role and responsibilities, wasn't declared an officer of the company in NJ State, and my job activities did not change. The company didn't do well, 6 mos no pay & I had to quit. I did not leave in good terms as they claimed because of my CTO title or operating as a key person, I must be responsible for transferring my responsibilities to my replacement, hence must provide them continual support after quitting or else will sue for damages.

Generally speaking, unless you have an employment contract, one has no obligation to do any work after one ceases to work for the company.
