Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

I worked in a small doctor's office. One evening the office manager verbally attacked me in front of the boss. I defended myself however, the boss did nothing to stop the argument. Two days later I was let go. The reason given was "I don't think this will work out" I was not given the chance to even try to work through whatever the problems were. I had been working there 17 months and was never told there were any problems with how I was doing my job. It was a part time job, but had the potential to go full time. I was given 2 weeks severance and my boss said he wouldn't contest my unemployment claim. I feel I was just cast aside for no other reason than the office manager didn't like me. My boss told me she felt threatened by me.

Unfortunately, based on the facts you have provided there is very little that can be done. New Jersey is an employment at will state, which means that your employer can terminate you at any time, for any or for no reason (subject to the protections you enjoy under state and federal anti-discrimination laws). You can also quit at any time, for any or no reason.
