Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

Hit and Run

Hi, I hit a parked car on Monday and left a business card at the scene. There is substantial damage to both vehicles. I have not heard anything since. I am afraid that my car blew off the window and I am being sought in a hit and run....Should I file my own report or ask the local authorities or should I lay low? Chances are noone saw anything, but I live in NJ and do not want to risk losing my license...What do you think I should do? Can they still charge me with a hit and run even if I made an attempt to settle this with the other owner?

Re: Hit and Run

You can lose your license for 6 months for this matter. If you "turn yourself in", you may curry favor with the police and avoid a suspension. In any event, I would have an attorney involved at this time. Feel free to call on our office at 1.877.676.7729.

Thank you.

Re: Hit and Run

Technically, you are guilty of a hit and run because you were supposed to call and wait for the police. It may be that no one saw you, but I have no knowledge of same.
