Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York

My father left a will behind when he passed in 2004, at the time I was only 15, I am now 21. He left behind a will, I know and heard was that there was money that was suppost to be in my hands from the will, the thing is I never had seen the will, or any money. My step mother had it and never let me see it. She told several neighbors different stories about the will that I am hearing today. Does she have a right to hold the will from me? They were not married and I am his only child. How do I get a copy of the will? Where do I go? What do i do?

Thankyou

The best place to start would be checking with the Surrogates Court in the county in which your father passed away to see if a will was probated there and if so, to view a copy of it.

If you suspect that you were fraudulent excluded as a beneficiary, you should seek immediate legal counsel, particularly if your father had substantial assets at the time he passed away.

Good luck!
