Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Pre-Marriage Debt

I am a 52 year old male on SSDI who is in debt due to poor financial handling of credit cards. I am contemplating marrying a lady who is 61 years of age (on a widow's pension) who is completely free of debt. If we were to marry, would she be held responsible for any of my debts previous to our marriage?

We have not been living together, nor has she been involved at all in any of my financial transactions.

We also do not have any joint accounts nor do we own any property and/or real estate. We are just in the process of dating at this time.

Any assistance you could give me at this time would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Pre-Marriage Debt

you are not responsible for the debts of your wife, or vice versa. Only if you co-sign for her would you be responsible.
