Legal Question in Discrimination Law in New York

sports and gender

A local community sports club provides the same opportunity for boys and girls. Both genders are able to play on a sports team subject to their respective ages. In one sport, basketball, which has identical programs for boys and girls, does a girl or parent have the right to force the community club to allow a girl play on the boys team? The club is privately funded, ie sign up fees and dues, but uses public facilities, ie. gymnasiums, baseball fields ect., when playing.

Re: sports and gender

Offhand, without the benefit of legal research, I do not know the specific answer to your question. My "gut," however, tells me that the girl would not be able to force partipation on the boys' team, assuming they are "equal," as you state.
