Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

getting personal items back from friend

I had a friend and we had an argument and are no longer friends. She has personal items of mine in her apartment, a DVD player, DVD's Clothes and IPOD. She will not answer phone calls from me or answer the door when I go to her apt. How can I get my things back? Should contact the police?

Re: getting personal items back from friend

You can try the police. If that does not work, a demand letter from an attorney may do the trick. If that does not work, you would commence an action against the friend for the replacement value of the items improperly retained.
