Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

Obtaining citizenship

My mother became a us citizen in 1998 which is about the same time i recieve my alien card. But no one told her that she could have applied for me to become a us citizen as well, since i was under 18 yrs of age. I'm looking into filling for the citizenship, i want to know if i have to apply for it through her status like i should have in 1998, or do i have to go through the whole proccess. Please let me know as soon as possible because my alien card is about to expire, so i would like to file for citizenship before it does. Thank you very much.
