Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Retribution for complaint = illegal?

I worked with a man with a severe anger problem. There are countless witnessed incidents but on Friday Sept 29th, he threw a stereo remote at me and was yelling obscenities so loudly I fled the office in fear. The incident was started when I changed his radio station. I issued a written complaint to my manager but nothing was done. On Thursday, the 5th, I asked him to not speak to me and he again began yelling obscenities and I ran to get the ceo and my manager. I asked the ceo for help and he assured me the behavior was unacceptable. They pulled him into a meeting and afterwards told me that they were letting me go. Is this illegal?

Re: Retribution for complaint = illegal?

It would depend on the specific circumstances, but firing someone because the employer does not get along with the employee or because the employer gets angry at the employee is not in itself illegal.
