Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

"auto accident involving alcohol"

my husband was involved in an auto accident on feb 22, 1996. I was just informed that he was at a local bar where he was with another person drinking for approx seven hours at the same bar. he is now in a brain rehab and has perm. brain damage. We have three teenage children. my question is this: is there a time limit in which I am able to sue the bar that served my husband? He was given a ticket for drunk driving by the police before he was taken to the hospital. I would like to sue on behalf of my children as they will need the money for college in the near future. Could I do that? thank you for all your help in this matter.

You should contact an attorney ASAP. You and or your children can sue the bar if you establish that they served him and he was intoxicated. This requires immediate investigation and also a determination as to whether or not the bar has dram shop insurance.
