Uninsured car accident damages

I was the driver in an uninsured car

accident. the driver of the insured

car's attorney or insurance company

sent me a letter stating i was the 3rd

party defendant that owes his client

$8,000. do i have to pay this

eventhough i am not the owner of

the car and was not aware that the

car was uninsured

You would not owe anyone anything until a judgment was entered against you, or you agreed to a settlement. Has there been a trial? Have you been found negligent? Did you agree to settle a case brought against you? As an aside, if you own a car, or live in a household where someone owns a car, it is advisable to inform the insurance broker or carrier of the circumstances of this accident. Don't wait. Best, M.
