Can broker sue for non payment of fee for a rental apartment before a lease is signed? No written consent of agreeing to a fee, just a strange email from broker demanding fee at a certain price before official lease signing.

Did you sign a contract or application through the broker? No contract = no commission liability. But if you used the broker to get the lease, you owe the commission when and if a lease is signed....not before.
