socail security and divorce

i was married 10/6/99 and i filed for

a seperation in 1/9/09 if my husband

decides not to sign the seperation

agreement and filed for divorce in

2/09 and the divorce is finalized

before 10/6/2009 would i be entiled

to his social security when he retires.

according to socail security you have

to be married for 10 yrs, or do i

need to try and drag on the divorce

so i could get as close as possible to

10/6/09 to get his socail security

which would be soooo much better

than mine because his income is

100k yrly. help .

Social security benefits are received after 10 years of marriage. Therefore, you should wait until after October 6, 2009 in order to be eligible for husband's social security benefits.
