Your post contains insufficient information . What do the papers say? Is it called a "summons and complaint?" If so, exemptions are irrelevant at this time. If the papers are called a "notice of rights to have exemptions designated" and "motion to claim exempt property" then the exemption papers describe what you can exempt.

I would suggest that you visit my website - I have an article about NC exemptions at www.rachelhunterlaw.com.
