Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

custody of grandson

In feb my 19 yr old daughter left her 10 month old with me &said she couldnt take care of him anymore. At the time I was about to move to NY from NC & could not care for him either. I gave him to DSS & he was put in foster care. DSS cannot find his mother now, & want to put the baby up for adoption. I am now settled & able to care for my grandson & do not want him to be adopted out. I cannot afford a lawyer to fight for him, but want to bring him home to live with me. What (if any) are my rights to him as a grandmother? What do I have to do to keep from losing him?

Re: custody of grandson

Hi, I am an adoption attorney and I received your question on law Guru. I would be willing to speak to you regarding your options. I do not charge a consulation fee. Do the current foster parents want to adopt the child? Will the agency consider you as an adoptive resource? Is the child placed in foster care in New York? I would be happy to schedule a time to speak with you about this situation. You can email me at: [email protected]
