Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

My wife filed for bed and board divorce on August 13th, 2005, in Durham, North Carolina. We went thru all the proceedings including separation of belongings. Basically, she kept it all. There is nothing left. There was no minor children involved. The Court gave her 70% of my 401K money. I got 30% and paid my attorney with it, and later on, left North Carolina. I am not in North Carolina and want no contact with her nor want her to know where I am. Over 5 years have gone by since the separation date.

Questions: how can I know if she has filed for absolute divorce?

She probaly has not. If she has not filed for absolute divorce, I need to know what to do to get divorced without coming over and without her knowing where I am. I am in Florida.

Please, advise

Have your lawyer check the public records in Durham to see if she was able to get a divorce from you. Otherwise, if she does not know where you are, it is hard for her to get a divorce since she has to serve the papers on you somehow. She can serve them by publication but that costs a lot more so she may choose not to do that. And for about $250 any decent private detective can find you anyway in about an hour unless you are living in the woods with no job, no credit cards, and no utility bills.
