Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Adoption

We were matched with a sibling set of two girls from out of state. An adoption advocate contacted us two weeks later and told us that another worker was interested in our family for their kids. Do we have the option to decline the first match that we are in, in hopes to be selected for the other children whom are 2 girls and 1 boy. 9, 6 and 5? Our adoption worker makes it sound as if we can not decline one match in hopes of being chosen for another. As the second (new group) was more of what we were hopeing for. We are with a public agency in Hamilton county, Ohio. Please let us know our options.

Re: Adoption

You should be able to change your mind during the match. The contract will tell you the conditional period within which you can change your mind. Don't be persuaded if you are not certain about this match. The agency might resist your change of mind because it doesn't want adopting parents to "shop around." Are you afraid to speak to your social worker about this? This process should be a transparent one.
