Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Bad lawyer

We were told by lawyerthat the court date would be changed to July. We live 5hrs away. Lawyer calls today and says it is still on. What are our options? This is one of many red flags about lawyer. Can we change lawyers this late?

Re: Bad lawyer

No idea from your facts whether the reason for non-change came from the court or where. No idea what kind of case it is.If the court did not agree to changing the date, then nothing that the lawyer - or any lawyer - could do about it.

Re: Bad lawyer

I answered your initial inquiry. Now that you have provided additional facts I suggest that you contact your attorney now!!! Ask him to try and obtain an agreement with the other attorney to reset the case. Barring that, you can direct him to file an emergency motion for continuance stating that he had mistakenly advised you that the court date would be in July, that you live 5 hours away and can not appear. The court might reset the case. However, the court may choose not to do so and require that you proceed.

Since you mentioned that there have been many red flags, if the date is reset, you need to hire an new attorney.

Good luck.
