Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Ohio

My duplex that I rent (and still under lease) was just recently sold. My original landlord sent me a text message last Monday stating the new owner was taking over the property the very next day. I immediately sent back a reply asking for the contact info for my new landlord. I have also requested this information again this weekend. February is fast approaching and the rent will be due. I have no idea who I am to pay or where my payment is to be sent.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

In Ohio, the best thing to do here is to document your attempts to contact the landlord for the information by keeping copies of what you sent to the old landlord.

You can also log onto your county auditor's website and you should be able to find out who owns the property from there. Send them a letter as well regarding the matter.

Lastly, if you are still striking out, you can try escrowing your rent with the clerk of courts in your area. You will want to show them the letter you got and that you sent to the previous landlord inquiring after the new landlord's address and the lack of response. They may let you pay the rent into escrow and I think that they would be hard pressed to evict you for non-payment at that point.
