Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio
Edith Crouse Estate
My grandmother passed last year, she resided in Florida. Our mother, her daughter, is deceased also. We were not informed of our grandmothers passing til this year. There are some personal items that belonged to our mother that we would like to obtain and are having difficulty getting a response from family members. We have contacted the attorney handling the estate and were told that our mother was not listed as an heir and that there also was no Will.
What legal grounds do we have?

Re: Edith Crouse Estate
Under Ohio law, if there is no will, the decedent's (your grandmother) estate is equally divided between her children (your mother and her siblings). If one of those children has died (your mother) that deceased child's children (you and your siblings) split her (your mother's) share. I suspect that Florida law would be the same. You may need to hire a Florida lawyer in the city/county where your grandmother lived at the time of her death to protect your interests.
