Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio

How much should i receive too?

My father had 3 cd's totaling $30K. I was made beneficiary to receive half, my brother the other half. In the will he left me $4,000 from the estate, my brother everything else. My brother says I only get the $4,000 - is that true?

Because beneficiaries have been named for the CDs, they will remain separate from the estate that is probated and you should be receiving two separate types of inheritances.

If you are a one half beneficiary on the bank accounts at the bank you will receive one-half of the accounts value. You will also receive the $4,000.00 from your fathers estate. A bank account that has a beneficiary passes outside of probate. What this means is the will does not control who receives the money in the account. The will only controls probate property, that being property without a beneficiary.
