Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Oregon

My father died in Mexico april 17 2008 and I live in oregon, my brother sister and I have yet to do anything about looking into what he left behind because we didn't want to seem greedy. It has been 2 years and I know he owns property in mexico as well as he had vehicles and bank accounts and I have no idea what to do. What kind of lawyer handles cases when someone passes from another country? Help! I don't even know where to start.....

It is important, particularly if he owned real estate, that you and/or your siblings start dealing with your late father's possessions. Your best bet is to locate an attorney in Mexico, preferably in the state or city where your father lived. If your father was a US citizen, real property ownership can be very tricky (in some parts of the country, non-Mexican citizens cannot own real property outright and must own it through a specialized trust). You need someone well versed in Mexican property and estate law. You can call the US embassy where your father lived and see if they have any referrals, since they are likely to know of English speaking attorneys in the area.
