Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Creditors collecting medical bills?

If a person owes a balance on medical bills to hospitals or to doctors, after the insurance company has paid their own portion to the hospital or doctor, can the person's account be turned over to a credit agency for non-payment or late payment and does this affect the person's credit profile? Thank You.

Re: Creditors collecting medical bills?

Any debt that you owe may be reported to the credit bureaus. That, in turn, will adversely effect your credit. Any person or business that is owed money can utilize a collection agency to assist them in collecting the debt.

If the balance of that debt, along with other debt, is greater than $10,000.00, you should consider your legal options.
