Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania
my husband has some foreign person calling him demanding hi social security number and is in forming him he has a trial date tomorrow 9/14 in the state of California they told him to be prepared not to come back home because he is going to be in jail for a long time because he would not be able to support them he also said when i ask why he said ask him what he did then he preceeded to tell me he was being charged with check fraud ,theft by deception and something else and that he owed the government money what i don't understand is friday 9/11 was the first we had heard of this no letters or nothing oh and the person doing the calling is from pa but the number when you call it back it say's this number is no longer in service and has been disconnected and then the other number that they said to call which is a california number when you call it back it sound's like a computer dial-up tone or a fax machine but wouldn't an attorney call you theirself? we are scared we have no idea what this is from the only thing we can think of is a payday loan we had we still owe them a $100.00 on it would this be considered a criminal act and are you required to go to a hearing when you weren't even served or notified? thank-you

What you have is a rogue debt collector. The threats that he made are very illegal. If you could identity the company, you would have a lawsuit against them. There is no jail time for failing to pay a debt.
If you live in PA, they can't sue you in California.
