Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

child custody

My children (2) ages 14 and 17 live with their mother and want to live with me because their are unhappy/uncomfortable at their mother's house because of their step dad starting to be abusive because he feels they ''talk back'' to him. My oldest left the other night after an argument and his mother locked him out and he came to my house after calling his uncle for a ride (my son was outside in shorts with no shirt). He's at my house now. Can I just take my boys if they feel (and I agree) that they are not in a stable/safe environment? What do I do?

Re: child custody

First, see if mom agrees at least on a temporary basis to let the children stay with you. If she does good if not you can file an emergency petition with the court to modify custody.

Be aware that filing an emergency petition is a bit to quite a bit harder than a regular petition. So you would be well advised to retain counsel.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me. The initial consultation is free.
