Legal Question

I am a young mother of two little girls (3 & 4) and I live with their father who is a drug addict with a criminal history. I thought he had changed but he has not and it feels like im a single mom already. We are in PA and I would like to go to nj about 50 miles away to be with my family. Can I just go? I have no idea where to start.
