going to jail?

My ex girlfriends parents are saying they are putting me in jail or taking me to court for oweing them money for a cell phone and oweing there daughter money and selling there fathers gun. Its been 3 years since we broke up and now there hitting me with this. Should I worry and do they have a case?

The statute of limitations for most crimes is 2 years so they probably can't file criminal charges against you. At best they could sue you for the converting the father's gun and they could also sue you for breach of contract for the cell phone charges.

As to the gun issue conversion of chattels is a tort. The statute of limitations on torts is 2 years. So that claim is barred by the statute of limitations.

As to the cell phone charges they could recover under contract. To do that they would have to prove you had an agreement to pay for the cell phone bill. The agreement doesn't have to be in writing. So they could prevail on this issue.
