Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania

unfair job termination

After leaving a position held for 12 yrs and going to my last employer, I was suddenly terminated after 29 months of employment. When I asked why they said it wasn't working out. Never given a bad work review, in fact, never given a review at all. The company employs approximately 120 people. I am 54, and was given 1 week of severence. Do I have any recourse to my untimely and unexpected termination?

Re: unfair job termination

In the absence of an employment agreement which states otherwise, PA follows the at will doctrine regarding employment. This means that you are free to quit at any time and an employer is free to terminate you at any time, absent some cognizable discrimination. In your case, if you did not have an employment agreement your recourse is (1) unemployment compenastion or (2) contemplating age discrimination. Nothing you have indicated (except your age) would lead me to suspect this is what motivated the termination.
