Cheated out of pay

i was working in a school setting receiving salary i opted to get paid over 12 months rather than the 10 month school year i will not be returning to that employment next year and they are trying to not pay me for the 12 months when i did complete my employment until the end of the school year i recieve direct deposit and they said they only owe me 1200 which will be deposited on june 23 they owe me over 5000 and i'm afraid that if they deposit that money it will look like i am accepting that amount as final payment. how can i get the money owed to me and will them depositing that money hurt me?

Re: Cheated out of pay

If you're in a union (meaning that there is a union contract for teachers where you work), contact your union rep.

If you're not, then look at the contract or other document that you were working under to determine your rights. If you are correct, then contact an attorney to write a letter for you to the school to try to resolve it without filing suit. If it can't be resolved, you will have to file suit.

With regard to whether accepting payment is accepting a settlement, it is only if THEY put that condition on acceptance, or if you agree.
